Life insurers see 27% rise in new policy premiums

For April-January period, SBI Life reported 29.63% increase in income. ICICI Prudential reported 8.6% increase in January premium to ₹1,564 crore against ₹1,439 crore. During the year to January, the insurer reported 2.87% increase.

India is an under penetrated market when it comes to retail credit, even when Indian Fintech companies are witnessing substantial growth in loan disbursals. In the first quarter of this fiscal, these Fintech companies disbursed a total of 22.2 million loans, growing 30.6% from the previous year, said a report by Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE).

Over the past four days, the RBI has carried out six rounds of short-term variable rate reverse repo (VRR) auctions that help mop up surplus funds from the banking system.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPI) sold shares worth ₹41,926 crore across 14 sectors on average in the January 16-31 period. Other than financials, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), services, and metals were among the sectors that witnessed outflows.

In its consultation paper, Sebi proposed categorising material changes notified by FPIs into two groups to set timelines for reporting such changes. Type I includes changes that require FPIs to seek fresh registration, or which affect any privileges or exemption available to such foreign investors and Type II includes all other material changes.

An uncertain economy has led to advertisers reducing their marketing budgets and sticking with safe havens such as Meta, while readers also cut back on subscriptions as they try to keep a lid on costs. Advertising revenue fell 8.4% to $164.1 million in the fourth quarter, lower than estimates of $177 million, per LSEG data.

The operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 6.8% YoY to Rs 284 crore. The EBITDA margins declined 80 basis points to 16.9%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 92.53 points, or 0.24%, at the open to 38,613.89. The S&P 500 opened higher by 18.82 points, or 0.38%, at 4,973.05
