For the year ended December 31, 2023, the S&P BSE Capital Goods Index experienced a remarkable surge of 66.89%, outpacing the Nifty50 and Sensex by considerable margins.

The last three days have seen rejection trades, with bears systematically upping their ante with every attempt to rise. However, dips never gained speed, and the prime reason for the same is the presence of the 50-day SMA nearby, which successfully allowed a regroup of bulls on Thursday.

After the sharp run-up in valuations, wealth managers believe this performance is unlikely to be repeated, and have asked investors to stagger their purchases in small cap stocks and come with a longer time frame.

The S&P 500 is up nearly 3% since the end of December and stands near record highs, driven in part by expectations of a U.S. economic "soft-landing" in which growth remains stable while inflation cools.

Brent crude futures were up 53 cents, or 0.7%, at $82.93 a barrel by 1:48 p.m. ET (1848 GMT), and touched $83.57, their highest price since November.

The profit growth is seen upwards of 300%, while net interest income is likely to grow around 2% year-on-year in the October-December period. Some analysts are even predicting a decline in the NII due to slower loan growth and the rising cost of funds.
