At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.36 against the greenback. The rupee touched the intra-day peak of 83.35 before trading at 83.36 against the American currency, up 1 paise from its previous close.

The stock quoted a 52-week high price of Rs 299.5 and a 52-week low of Rs 172.25.

“In infrastructure, I would look at companies that are able to manage their cash flows better and even a company like Mazagon Dock has amazing cash flow management for what is otherwise a government company. They have net cash on their balance sheet because they get paid in advance. Some of those aspects matter more.”

Investors will eye the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data due on Tuesday, which is expected to show headline inflation remaining unchanged in November, followed by the Producer Price Index (PPI) and the last interest rate decision of the year from the Fed on Wednesday.

Brent crude futures for February were flat at $76.03 a barrel as of 0103 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures for January delivery were up 3 cents at $71.35 a barrel.

The dollar rose about 0.9% on the yen overnight. At 145.96 yen it is about 3% above a low touched last week after remarks on the challenging outlook from Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda were taken as a hint that a policy shift was imminent.
