The Nifty gained 2.07%, or 418.90 points, to close at 20,686.80 after hitting a high of 20,702.65. The Sensex rose 2.05%, or 1,383.93 points, to close at 68,865.12, with the 70,000 mark in clear sight if the trend persists. Total market capitalisation shot up by ₹7.56 lakh crore (around $91 billion) on Monday.

The S&P 500 receded, with megacaps Microsoft, Apple , Nvidia and Amazon dipping over 1%, pressured by higher U.S. Treasury yields, which made returns on stocks less attractive.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 156.12 points, or 0.43%, at the open, to 36,089.38. The S&P 500 opened lower by 30.26 points, or 0.66%, at 4,564.37, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 136.37 points, or 0.95%, to 14,168.66 at the opening bell.
