Brent crude futures rose 6 cents to $86.91 a barrel by 0010 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained 12 cents, or 0.2%, to $82.58 a barrel.

Stocks that were in focus included names like Britannia, which gained 3%, Tata Motors, which jumped 9.77%, and Minda Corp, whose shares declined 0.37% on Thursday.

Apple on Thursday reported sales and profit for the fiscal fourth quarter that beat Wall Street expectations, helped by an uptick in iPhone sales and a $1 billion boost to services revenue that offset large drops in Mac and iPad sales.

"I would be a little cautious in small and midcap space in the near term. Indian SMIDs have returned more than 30% in FY24, significantly outperforming not just their largecap peers, but also their global peers (which have been flat to negative in FY24). This accompanied by increased global volatility, fading margin tailwinds and moderate growth could weigh on overall SMID sentiments."
