Gold had a firm start this year by gaining more than 13 percent in the first five-month period. Since then, it has consolidated in a tight range, and last week, it came out of the stiff support zone of $1880 an ounce.

U.S. government bond yields ended September with their biggest quarterly rises in a year, disappointing fund managers who were hoping for relief from the historic losses bonds suffered in 2022, when the U.S. Federal Reserve and other central banks raised interest rates to contain surging inflation.

Six of them listed housing woes as the biggest risk for equities for the final quarter of 2023. Geopolitical tensions emerged as the second-biggest concern.

The main trigger for the company was that it developed its own branded Laptop and Micro PC in the market that matches international quality and performance. ITI Ltd was followed by Omaxe, whose shares gained 64% and Jai Balaji Industries, which rose 61% in September. IFCI, GTL Infrastructure and NIIT are the other stocks in the smallcap pack which have delivered over 50% returns to investors in September.

It is now thought that the UK economy grew by 1.8 % between the final quarter of 2019 -- or before the start of the Covid pandemic -- and the second quarter of this year, the ONS added Friday. It previously said the UK economy had shrunk slightly over the period.

The inflation drop was broad-based, with all price categories growing at a slower pace and energy prices falling outright for a fifth consecutive month. A separate report showed German import prices - which tend to lead consumer prices because Germany sources many intermediate products and raw materials from abroad - recorded in August the largest year-on-year decline since November 1986.
