The Nifty 50 net gained about 2% in the current quarter, compared to the 10% gains it clocked in the June quarter.

India VIX was up by 10.73% from 11.58 to 12.82 levels on Thursday. Volatility spiked and touched 13 zones after four months and paved the way for the bears in the market.

From the Sensex pack, NTPC, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and L&T were the top gainers, rising 1-2%. Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, and SBI also rose in early trade. On the flip side, Asia Paints, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, and IndusInd Bank declined.

Sandip Sabharwal says HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank are currently not attractive investment options due to various challenges they face. However, these banks are well-managed and could be considered for investment at lower prices in the future. Sabharwal also discusses the impact of rising yields and the dollar rally on emerging market stocks, stating that India is more robust now compared to earlier.

In the last 10 years, October has proved to be one of the best months for Nifty Bulls as the index has given a positive monthly return nine out of 10 times, with the average return being 2.9%.

Of the 22 analysts that participated in the ETMarkets Survey, more than 77% of the respondents see the benchmark Nifty 50 above the 20000-mark, and 81% of them expect the Sensex to top 67000 points by the end of December.
