MTNL may issue Rs 1,200-crore government bonds

Bidding for the bond sale is likely to take place on August 23. On July 14, MTNL informed the exchanges that it had received in-principle approval to issue bonds worth up to 6,661 crore via private placement in the current financial year.

The Board approved raising of funds up to Rs 5000 crore through issue of equity shares via qualified institutions placement.

The shares which listed earlier than anticipated fell to ₹251.75 on the BSE, giving it a market value of ₹1.6 lakh crore, after opening trade at ₹265 apiece. The company, which has multiple lines of business in finance, was spun off from Reliance Industries.
