The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sued Coinbase in the second lawsuit in two days against a major cryptocurrency exchange. The regulator claims that since 2019, Coinbase has generated billions of dollars by operating as a middleman on crypto transactions while evading disclosure requirements meant to protect investors. Coinbase is accused of having traded at least 13 crypto assets that are securities that should have been registered, including tokens such as Solana, Cardano and Polygon. The SEC could transform the crypto market, if it successfully asserts its jurisdiction over the industry that has largely operated outside its regulation.
