The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 11.09 points, or 0.03 per cent, at the open to 34,507.15.

Infosys, MindTreee, National Standard (India), Plastiblends India, Aditya Birla Money and Morarka Finance are among the companies that will announce their September quarter results today.

The state-owned power giant is looking at a collaboration with banks to rescue KSK Mahanadi Power, a holding company which houses the plant. The collaboration could take the form of a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between NTPC and the banks after the former infuses funds into the company, these executives said.

Oil prices have been firming up recently with Brent at $84 a barrel — near its three-year high — led by a rebound in global demand that has contributed to energy shortages across various big countries such as China. While rising oil is bad news for India — a net importer of crude — some oil explorers such as ONGC and Oil India have benefitted.

“Bharti’s cashback offer is targeted at migration of 2G subscribers to 4G services, which will likely be ARPU-accretive and also reduce churn,” CLSA said in a report. It added that the “timing is positive too, ahead of the JioPhone Next launch in November”.
