The S&P/ASX 200 ended up 0.7% at 7,514.5, marking a seventh straight session of gains.

The Nikkei share average declined 0.8% to 28,027.25, ending the day above the psychological 28,000 line after earlier dropping as low as 27,736.27.

The 30-share pack Sensex advanced, in line with peers across Asia, rising 740.34 points or 1.28% to close at 58,683.99.

The BSE Sensex closed 740.34 up at 58683.99 on Wednesday.

The stock quoted a 52-week high price of Rs 141.75 and a 52-week low of Rs 86.7.

The promoter family has made several unsuccessful attempts to delist the counter in the last few years. Elcid investment holds about 4.3 per cent stake in Asian Paints, which is worth about Rs 12,750 crore.

The strategists caution that the selloff that took the S&P 500 12% from its January record is not over and sharp rallies are typical of volatility in bear markets, with some of the biggest on record occurring in the throes of the dot-com meltdown and the global financial crisis. A closely watched Treasury market metric flashed a recession warning Tuesday.
