Vanguard bought shares of Elgi Equipments in 2 lots. In the first batch, it bought over 28 lakh shares, while the second lot was of about 27 lakh shares. The average price for the deal was at Rs 489.2. The stock ended Friday with a fall of close to 7 per cent at Rs 489.05 per share.

The Indian stock market is in a strong bull run and every bull run has sharp profit booking during its journey which we are witnessing currently. The undertone remains bearish in the short term as long as we stay below the level of 18,000.

The brokerage is bullish on the premise that “that faster deposit accretion for HDFC Bank from a system standpoint may be achievable, while grandfathering of bank borrowings may be permitted. Unsecured share in the merged entity might remain between 11-12 per cent, as the mortgage portfolio (higher ticket size) would grow aggressively.

Shoppers Stop has hit a new 52-week high. The stock is almost at a new all-time high. The stock has moved up from 400 in June all the way to 700-750. So a good part of the trade is over, but structurally the trend is positive across this space. A 5% to 10% correction from here is where I would look at investing.

Growth stocks, especially with high valuation multiples are vulnerable to high inflation rates. In order to curb inflation, the central bank raises interest rates which ultimately causes bond yields to rise. This doesn’t bode well for growth stocks.
