The Nifty IT index closed 0.69 per cent down at 28517.25.

Fear gauge index India VIX marginally fell down by 0.60% from 16.22 to 16.21 levels. Volatility took a pause after a spike in the last week but was quoting near the highest levels of the last 26 trading sessions, thus giving the overall grip to bears in the market

Indian banks are best placed and people should use this opportunity of correction in banks to buy largecap Indian banks. HDFC has not fallen so much and so far other three would offer better opportunities. Capital goods is also a good story but there we have not seen corrections. In fact, many of the capital goods or infra companies have actually held up very well so that I am not buying right now.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened lower at 82.77 against the dollar. It traded between 82.60 and 82.80 levels, and settled at 82.77 (provisional) against the American currency, registering a fall of 12 paise against its previous close
