Gautam Shah says: “As things stand, things are a little euphoric. I think we have reached a phase of exuberance. And there is this feeling in the marketplace that this will continue forever. But I do believe that as we get into the month of January, be prepared for some volatility, some weakness, some correction. But I think it is going to be rotational in nature.”

​The quarterly rebalancing of NSE indices is set to take place after market close on Thursday, and a potential increase and decrease in the weights of key Nifty 50 stocks could impact passive flows.

S Krishnakumar says: “Definitely this year has been quite a bit of surprise aided by expansion in operating margins. Nifty earnings probably would be upwards of Rs 1000 at this point for FY24. So, if you run forward one-year, two-year earnings, we should be around Rs 1,115 on a one-year basis and about Rs 1,280 on a two-year forward basis and discounting the current multiples.”

Among the Sensex stocks, NTPC, M&M, Power Grid, and Nestle were the top gainers, rising 2-3%. Tata Motors, ITC, Bharati Airtel and HUL also closed higher. On the other hand, L&T, Wipro, UltraTech Cement, and Asian Paints closed in the red.

Nirav Karkera says: “If you want to play on stocks which reflect on factors the government policies are focusing on and macros are in favour of, very good opportunities are available in the mid- and smallcap space and for most of these segments are almost absent in the large-cap space.”
