As part of the demerger plan, ITC has chosen to keep a 40% stake with itself and give the rest to existing shareholders. The share ratio would be finalised by the ITC board at its meeting on August 14. From the Sensex pack, Asian Paints, HUL, ITC, Bajaj Finance, Maruti, and Sun Pharma opened with losses, while Power Grid, Tata Motors, NTPC, JSW Steel, and Tata Steel opened with gains.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.23, then touched a high of 82.21 against the American currency. It later traded at 82.25, registering a fall of 7 paise over its previous close.
