Gold futures on MCX were trading higher by 0.16% or Rs 85 at Rs 54,828 per 10 grams. Silver futures jumped 0.40% or Rs 276 at Rs 69,051 per kg.

Overnight Wall Street surged, before paring gains to leave the S&P 500 up 0.7% at the close. The dollar, which is falling from 20-year highs as U.S. interest rate expectations retreat, dropped broadly and sharply, while bonds rallied.

U.S. crude inventories rose by about 7.8 million barrels in the week to Dec. 9, according to market sources citing data from the American Petroleum Institute, while analysts polled by Reuters had expected a 3.6 million barrel drop in stocks. Product stocks also jumped, with gasoline inventories up by about 900,000 barrels and distillate stocks up by 3.4 million barrels, API data showed.

Stocks that were in focus include names like UCO Bank which was up nearly 20%, Yes Bank which gained nearly 14%, and Indian Overseas Bank which closed with gains of nearly 15% on Tuesday.

Golden Cross is an important technical indicator of bullishness. It occurs when the short-term moving average crosses over the major long-term moving average on the upside.

“Not only will PSUs benefit from government spending, but some of the private sector infra players like L&T, where we are seeing strong order book inflows, execution and some of the private players like KEC or road players like KNR Construction could see uptick in the order book, execution and profitability which should attract a lot of investor interest in the space.”

S&P BSE Sensex closed with gains of over 400 points while Nifty50 reclaimed 18,600 levels on Tuesday.
