Dragged by broad-based selling across sectors, the 30-share pack Sensex ended 1 per cent lower at 53,887. The index settled below 54,000 after four sessions. Its broader peer, Nifty50, also fell by a similar magnitude but managed to hold the 16,000 mark. Forty-four stocks from the Nifty 50 pack settled with cuts while six ended higher.

The European single currency hit exactly one dollar before rising slightly.

The initiative aims to remove the taxation burden from the investors, encouraging them to undertake systematic investment plans (SIP) to leverage the benefits of rupee cost averaging to counter volatility.Investors availing of SIP for a minimum period of 12 months can invest without worrying about paying the TDS. While there is no minimum tenure for redemption, Bitbns will bear the TDS for SIP investments redeemed after 12 months.

"Automobiles have just about reached revenues closer to the pre-pandemic levels so these are the segments where we will now start seeing momentum building up and with the opening of the multiplexes you will start seeing revenues beginning to go up. For India Inc, we are expecting close to 30% growth in revenues but a large percentage of that growth is driven by price hikes."
