A $2 trillion free-fall rattles crypto to the core

What started this year in crypto markets as a “risk-off” bout of selling fueled by a Federal Reserve suddenly determined to rein in excesses has exposed a web of interconnectedness that looks a little like the tangle of derivatives that brought down the global financial system in 2008.

Stocks that were in focus included names like Route Mobile which rallied more than 8 per cent, Timken India which was up nearly 4 per cent, and Ambuja Cements which closed with gains of over a per cent on Monday.

Lending to the household sector which includes individuals, proprietary concerns, Hindu undivided families (HUF) and partnership firms, among others accounted for 53.8 per cent in March 2022. Significantly, loans to female borrowers, who had 22.5 per cent share in bank loans to individuals, increased by 13.9 per cent during 2021-22, the RBI release said.

"Rural demand is down 25% in June as farmers are busy in sowing kharif crop and buying seeds and other agricultural inputs. July will also be similar. The demand will return in August during Ganesh Chaturthi," said Ashish Pethe, chairman, All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council.
