Asian stocks hit 2-year low on rate hike worries

Asian shares tumbled to their lowest in nearly two years on Tuesday as investors shed riskier assets on worries about higher interest rates and their impact on economic growth, while the dollar held near 20-year highs.

Though a bear market is not a foregone conclusion, signs of souring sentiment are everywhere as the Fed tightens monetary policy to fight the worst inflation in nearly four decades.

Adani Ports, PNB, Petronet LNG, Relaxo Footwears, Indian Bank, SKF India, BSE, Balaji Amines, Lakshmi Machine Works, Birla Corporation and Kalyan Jewellers are among the companies which will announce their earnings today.

SRF, UPL, Piramal Enterprises, Dalmia Bharat, Vedant Fashions, Central Bank of India, GNFC, BASF India Suven Pharma, PVR, Godrej Agrovet, KEI Industries and Craftsman Automation are among the companies which will announce their earnings today.

Analysts say it is expected that some loan accounts will turn sour after restructuring and though it is too early to say whether this is a systemic problem, fiscal 2023 for non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) will most likely be a year of cautious optimism.

Atria is likely to raise about $250-300 million (₹2,000-2,300 crore) and the financing will likely value the company in the $800 million-$1 billion range (₹6,000-7,500 crore).

It is evident that the markets are scrambling to find a potential base for themselves; given the addition of fresh shorts over the past four sessions, a strong technical pullback at any point in time cannot be ruled out. It is recommended that creating fresh shorts in such markets must be avoided as short traps can occur at any time.
